About this trip
This 17-day trek combines the classic Everest Base Camp route with the quieter Gokyo Valley, linking the two via the high Cho La Pass. It's a serious high-altitude undertaking, with several days above 5000m and two major passes to cross on foot.
You'll walk through Sherpa villages and Tibetan Buddhist monasteries in the Khumbu region, with long views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam and Nuptse along the way. The route passes through Sagarmatha National Park, where forests give way to glacial valleys as you climb.
Starting with a flight into Lukla, the trek builds gradually through Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche and Lobuche before reaching Everest Base Camp, then crosses Cho La Pass into the Gokyo side for a second set of summits and views.
What you'll do
- Reach Everest Base Camp and climb Kala Patthar (5550m) for sunrise views of Everest
- Cross the high Cho La Pass (5420m) between Dzongla and Thagnak
- Climb Gokyo Ri (5357m) above the turquoise Gokyo Lakes
- Walk through Sherpa villages and monasteries including Namche Bazaar and Tengboche
- Spot wildlife such as musk deer, blue sheep and pheasant in Sagarmatha National Park
- Take in views of Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Ama Dablam and Nuptse
- This is a high-altitude trek with multiple nights above 5000m, so prior trekking fitness matters
- Fully guided, with permits, meals and accommodation on the trek arranged for you
- 17 days is a long trip — pace is gradual to help with acclimatisation, but the Cho La Pass crossing is a demanding day
