About this trip
An 8-day trek along the Druk Path, the old trading route connecting Paro and Thimphu through Bhutan's high mountain passes. You walk through blue pine forest, rhododendron and juniper, camping in the wilderness between the two cities.
The route climbs from around 2,400 to 4,200 metres, passing alpine lakes and giving you views towards Mt Gangkar Puensum, the world's highest unclimbed peak. Along the way you pass monasteries, old fortresses and small villages that give a sense of Bhutan beyond the trailhead.
You start and finish with hotel stays in Paro and Thimphu, with camping for the trekking days in between — so it's not all under canvas.
What you'll do

- Camp beside alpine lakes including Jimilang Tsho and Simkotra Tsho
- Walk through blue pine forest and rhododendron country
- Visit monasteries, fortresses and traditional villages en route
- Views towards Mt Gangkar Puensum, the highest unclimbed peak in the world
- Bookend the trek with hotel stays in Paro and Thimphu
- Altitude ranges from 2,400 to 4,200 metres, so some acclimatisation is needed
- Most nights on the trek are spent camping, not in hotels
- Departures are guaranteed to run even with a single traveller booked
Worth it if you want stunning mountain scenery, attentive guides, and flexible itineraries. Think twice if you need nightlife or lots to do in towns.
- Guides (Tenzin, Chencho) genuinely knowledgeable on history, Buddhism, culture; kept pace with trekkers and adapted on the fly.
- Full support team (guide, chef, mule handler) means you trek unencumbered; fresh meals daily, even birthday cakes in mountains.
- Trek moderate, well-maintained trails; wildflower meadows, glacial lakes, and dramatic Himalayan views dominate the experience.
- Towns (Paro, Thimphu) have limited nightlife and things to do; most appeal lies in trekking, not urban exploration.
