About this trip

This nine-day journey takes you through Nepal's contrasts, from the Himalayan foothills to the plains, and from green forest to the high desert landscape of Mustang.

You'll spend time in Kathmandu, exploring its temples and historic architecture, before moving on to the calmer lake city of Pokhara. The pace balances sightseeing with genuine downtime.

It's built around Nepal's temples, traditional architecture, and local culture, giving a broad first look at the country rather than a deep dive into any one region.

What you'll do

  • Explore Kathmandu's temples and historic architecture
  • Spend time by the lake in Pokhara
  • Take in the desert-like landscape of Mustang
  • See the shift from Himalayan peaks to open plains and forest
  • Learn about Nepal's traditions and cultures along the way
Good to know
  • Departure is guaranteed regardless of group size, so you may end up with a small or even private group
  • Guiding is included selectively rather than at every stage of the trip
  • Suits travellers who want a mix of sightseeing and relaxed pace rather than hard adventure

  1. Arrival — Kathmandu

Land at Tribhuvan International Airport where a company representative meets you and drives you to your hotel in a private car—a journey that typically takes 30 minutes or more depending on traffic. You'll get a briefing about the trip either en route or after check-in, then have time to settle in.

  2. Explore 3–4 of Kathmandu's major sites across the Kathmandu Valley, which holds seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites and sits at the heart of Nepal's history and culture. The day is built around understanding this ancient city's rich tapestry of traditions.

  3. Drive to Pokhara (827 M / 2713.6 FT) — Kathmandu

Leave Kathmandu early with breakfast on the coach, watching terraced farms and traditional houses pass while crossing the Trishuli River. Stop for tea at a highway restaurant and lunch at a riverside establishment, arriving in Pokhara in the afternoon after 8–10 hours on winding roads affected by construction.

  4. Start at Gupteshwor Cave to see limestone formations and sacred shrines, then visit the Tibetan Refugee Camp to experience that community's culture. Tour the Peace Stupa for views over Pokhara and the Annapurna range, and the International Mountain Museum to learn about the Himalayas and mountaineering.

  5. Drive 3–4 hours to Bandipur, a town celebrated for preserving Newar culture and traditional architecture along its cobblestone streets. The town sits at 1,030m and invites unhurried exploration and photography in what locals call 'The Little Florence of the East'.

  6. Adventure Begins in Chitwan (150 M / 492 FT) — Chitwan National Park

After breakfast, drive to Chitwan National Park at 150m elevation. Check in, have lunch at the hotel, then visit a nearby Tharu village to experience local culture and daily life before settling in for the night.

  7. Wake early to the jungle's sounds and join a naturalist guide for bird-watching through diverse ecosystems. After lunch, head out on a Jeep safari to Lamachaur forest to spot wildlife including rhinoceroses and tigers among dense forest and grassland.

  8. Depart Chitwan between 6 and 7 AM by tourist coach back to Kathmandu, trading national park landscapes for the city's bustle. Check into your hotel and spend the rest of the day as you wish—exploring local markets, visiting sites, or relaxing at a café.

  9. A representative meets you at your hotel at a time scheduled around your flight, then escorts you to Tribhuvan International Airport for departure. Aim to arrive 3 hours before departure for check-in and security.
