About this trip

This trip takes you up Kilimanjaro via the Marangu route, the shortest and least technically demanding way to the summit. Instead of tents, you sleep in communal huts at each camp, with proper beds and solar lighting rather than a sleeping bag on the ground.

Meals are taken in shared dining huts alongside climbing groups from other countries, which tends to make for a sociable, lively atmosphere rather than a solitary trek. The climb itself typically runs over 5 days, with the option of an extra day at Horombo to acclimatise properly before the summit push.

As part of the wider 8-day package, accommodation and transport around the climb are included, so the days either side of the mountain are taken care of as well.

What you'll do

  • Trek to the summit via the Marangu ("Coca Cola") route
  • Sleep in solar-lit huts at Mandara, Horombo and Kibo camps
  • Share dining huts and meals with climbing groups from around the world
  • Optional extra day at Horombo for acclimatisation
  • Nature walk to Zebra Rock if taking the extended itinerary
Good to know
  • Considered the easiest and shortest route up Kilimanjaro, which suits first-time high-altitude trekkers
  • Huts have sponge mattresses, pillows and solar power, but bathrooms with running water are only at the two lower camps — Kibo is a dry camp
  • Doing 6 days instead of 5 gives better acclimatisation and is worth considering if you can

What travellers actually say

Worth it if you're reasonably fit and want attentive, experienced guides. Think twice if you need flexibility—the schedule runs to plan with early starts and fixed departure times.

  • Guides monitor heart rate and oxygen nightly, checking gear beforehand and knowing when climbers need encouragement individually.
  • Chef produces varied, hot meals reliably from a single gas ring tent; porters are genuinely friendly and the whole team treats this like family.
  • Early airport pickups (4am mentioned) and fixed hiking schedules mean zero flexibility; requires you to be reasonably fit to actually enjoy summit day.
  • Local company where guides and organisers were porters themselves; they know the mountain intimately and respond quickly to pre-trip questions.
