   Day 1 · Machame CampMACHAME GATE – MACHAME CAMP: 10.75K /7MI | 5-6 HRS | RAINFOREST

   Drive 45 minutes from Moshi through Machame village to the national park gate, where you'll wait for permits while watching other crews mobilise. The rainforest trail climbs from 1811m to 3021m over roughly 6 hours—muddy and slippery underfoot, with your guide pointing out local flora, fauna and wildlife. Gaiters and poles help here.

   Day 2 · Shira Camp OneMACHAME CAMP – SHIRA CAMP: 5.3KM/3MI | 4-5HRS | MOORLAND

   After breakfast, emerge from rainforest onto an ascending path that crosses a valley along a steep rocky ridge, then turns west into a river gorge. You'll reach Shira Camp at 3839m by early afternoon. Temperature drops noticeably as altitude increases.

   Day 3 · Barranco CampSHIRA CAMP – LAVA TOWER – BARRANCO CAMP: 10.75KM/6MI | 5-6HRS | SEMI-DESERT

   Though you finish near where you started elevation-wise, this day matters for acclimatisation. Head east up a ridge, pass the Kibo junction, then southeast to Lava Tower (the 'Shark's Tooth' at 4650m), continue past the Arrow Glacier junction, and descend to Barranco Camp. Roughly 6 hours, semi-desert terrain.

   Day 4 · Barafu HutBARRANCO CAMP – KARANGA CAMP – BARAFU CAMP: 8.5KM/5MI | 6-8HRS | ALPINE DESERT

   After breakfast, tackle the steep Barranco Wall—an impressive ridge where your crew moves with striking ease—into Karanga Valley. The trail connects with the Mweka Route before you climb toward Barafu Camp at 4662m. You've now circled the mountain's south side with varied summit views. Early dinner and rest before the summit push.

   Day 5 · Lower Mweka HutBARAFU CAMP – SUMMIT: 4.86KM /3MI UP | 5-7HRS | – MWEKA CAMP: 13KM /8MI DOWN | 5-6HRS | GLACIERS, SNOW CAPPED SUMMIT

   Start between midnight and 2 a.m. for the most mentally and physically demanding push. Climb 4.86km upward for 5–7 hours between the Rebmann and Ratzel glaciers, switchbacking northwest through heavy scree to Stella Point on the crater rim. Watch the sunrise from there or the summit itself, then descend 13km to Mweka Camp over 5–6 hours.

   Day 6 · Mweka GateMWEKA CAMP – MWEKA GATE – MOSHI: 9.1KM/6MI |3-4HRS | RAINFOREST

   

   Breakfast, then a farewell ceremony with your crew before the final 9.1km descent to Mweka Gate in warmer, wetter, muddier terrain—poles and gaiters essential again. Collect your summit certificate, meet transport in Mweka village, and drive roughly 30 minutes back to Moshi for a hot shower and proper meal.
